I've heard that when you go to the temple, angels watch over your kids. Apparently that insurance doesn't cover pets. Recently, while James and I was at the temple, Smudge was "lightly dropped" over the fence. The distance was too great, the landing unstable, and the result was a dog with a broken leg. After Smudge escaped from the backyard, Luke found her and thought he would put her over the fence instead of walking her through the house--he was distracted, he had friends over. I'm sure he had no idea that dogs can be fragile. He was devastated when he heard a heart wrenching whine after she hit the ground. James and I returned from the temple to tearful children and a dog in a makeshift splint created from pens and scotch tape. After watching Smudge for a day, we knew that the damage was too great for homemade rememdies and we took her to the vet. The final outcome--we now have a dog with a cast.
