Luke Graduates Elementary School

It may seem odd to some that we are writing about graduation in July. It is not strange to us because school just ended for us. July 2nd was the last day of the school year for my kids and it was the last day of elementary school for Luke.

The 6th graders got to have a graduation ceremony that the family was invited to. They gave graduation speeches, handed out awards, recognized each child and read where that child hoped to be in 20 years. All in all, it was fun. Luke was chosen to write and read a tribute to the parents. He wrote about what "a parent is" there was quite a bit of humor in it with some seriousness at the end-- it was very fitting for his personality. He received the Presidential award and got a pin and letter from President Obama. He also received a top reader medal and a DARE award.

After the presentations, the kids sang a song to the parents. I admit, I got a little choked up. Luke has had a great experience in elementary school and has made some top notch friends. A lot of those kids are at our house often. It has been a neat experience watching them grow into young men. They grow up so fast!

Of course, we had the annual end-of-year party. Lindsey had her class come from 6-9 and Luke's class came from 7-10. There was a lot of food and the kids ran around and played games. Lindsey's teacher came which made her class very excited. Actually, Luke and a lot of his friends had had Mrs. Wood the year before so they were excited to see her too. I told her she was just as good as having a celebrity over.

One of the most memorable things about this whole year is Luke's yearbook picture...here it is!
