Lindsey Celebrates Birthday--10 Years!

It doesn't seem like it has been ten years since we welcomed Lindsey into the world on that old bathroom in Washougal, Washington. Time sure flies. As we have enjoyed Lindsey these last ten years, the moments of her birth make more sense to me. Lindsey has a very determined personality. When she gets an idea in her head, she doesn't stop until she has accomplished it or at least tried. I'm sure the morning she was born, her spirit decided it was time to come and she wasn't going to wait for anything! I have sure loved getting to know Lindsey.

Lindsey and her friends love to write stories. They often will get together for a play date and outline a story they want to write. Lindsey took this idea and ran with it. For her birthday party, we decided to have a "storytelling" theme. As part of the girls' invitations, we took them a book with blank pages. Lindsey had gotten a book binder as a gift from us for her birthday so this worked out great. The girls were instructed to write a story and bring it to the party.

The night of the party, they all arrived with books in hand. They spent the first hour of the party sitting around the kitchen table illustrating their books. There was much laughter as they shared their stories and ideas. After the books were illustrated, we headed outside to the fire pit. Luke started a fire, and as the girls roasted marshmallows, they shared their books. Some of the girls were shy and wouldn't read their books but they had fun anyway.

Instead of a birthday cake, Lindsey opted to have a giant, ice cream sundae. We had done this once before for an Anderson party. I fill a trough with bananas, add three kinds of ice cream, then pour on the toppings. I added candles and we were ready to go. The girls had fun digging in! Lindsey claims it was one of her best birthdays.
